Destructive Fishing

https://savethephilippinecoralreefs.wordpress.com
There are many easy ways to catch fish; with a fishing rod, a net, or just picking it out of the water with your hands. However other more destructive techniques exist like dynamite/poison, bottom trawling, and ghost fishing. Each one has its own negative effects on the global and local fishing economies respectively. Dynamite fishing as the name implies someone lights a stick of dynamite and throws it into the water hoping that when it explodes dead fish rise to the surface ready to be taken into the boat. Poison fishing is almost the same as dynamite fishing except that whoever is fishing pours poison such as cyanide or bleach into the water. Not just the fish are killed by the poison being poured into the water, it kills everything in the ecosystem that it comes into contact with leaving the ecosystem permanently scarred. In particular bottom trawling is one of the most destructive techniques used, it involves large nets being dragged across the ocean floor picking up anything and everything it comes into contact with. Finally what is arguably one of the most destructive methods overall is ghost fishing, despite its name ghost fishing isn't actually fishing at all just fishing equipment being abandoned out at sea where it routinely catches fish and eventually because the fish have no way of escaping they die. Studies have shown that ghost fishing is primarily caused by bans being placed on certain fishing techniques so the equipment is just abandoned at sea.

  1. It would be great to see some more sources being used and also some more organization between your ideas. Maybe even a little more analysis too. Make sure to embed your sources as well.
