These days kids have plenty of things to do, and plenty of ways to spend their time. However, whenever a Pixar movie comes out, kids are always attracted to them. What are some reasons that kids abandon their other methods of entertainment when a new Pixar movie comes out? What are some incentives for kids to see Pixar movies? Parents take children to watch Pixar movies because they teach them lessons, make them laughs, stimulates imagination and has creative story lines.
1)They pick up on the lessons. Pixar tells stories to entertain audiences and they use this platform to also teach important lessons to children at a young age effectively. On a website called Babble, they conducted an interview with a child after he viewed Inside Out (an animated movie about emotions), he claims “I learned from you and the movie that all emotions have a purpose.” This is a reliable source because it was posted a year ago and is administered by a very large and developed company. This article addresses my research question by providing a interview with a kid after he viewed a Pixar film. This article provides support for my argument that Pixar provides youth with valuable lessons. Pixar is able to deliver usually hard messages to youth in a very fun, and innovative way where the kids can actually pick up on the lessons Pixar is trying to teach. This is an incentive for children to go to Pixar movies because young children typically like to learn new things.
2)They laugh. Children across the board love to laugh, play, and have fun. Pixar gives this opportunity to every kid who watches their movies. While Pixar attracts all ages of viewers, they make sure that there is humor for all ages. An example of this is Dory, from Finding Nemo. Dory with her short term memory loss, appeals to all types of viewers with her funny voice and repetitive sayings. This is a reason why kids want to go to Pixar movies because it gives them something to laugh about and have fun.
3)Provokes imagination. In the last decade, the value of imagination has plummeted with the development of the internet and mobile devices. These days kids play on their tablets or on their phones, instead of building forts or playing outside. Using imagination seems to be dying out in the youth. Pixar provides a place where kids are invited and encouraged to use their imaginations, think outside the box and and be goofy. A possible incentive for a kid to go see a Pixar film is they get to experience an imaginative, innovative world.
4)Colorful characters. Every kid loves color whether it’s physical color of the character or the color of a character's personality. Pixar has been developing a vast array of characters with various personalities and various colors. Because Pixar does such a great job developing these characters physically and mentally, viewers carry these characters with them after the movie, and can sometimes even relate to them. For example, Finding Nemo, after a kid has viewed this movie, whenever they see an Orange or Blue fish they automatically think that it’s Nemo and Dory. Kids love to attach experiences to their everyday lives. This is a possible incentive for kids to see Pixar movies because it provides the kid with another personality that they can relate to or learn from.
5)Unique story lines. Being kids, they have watched or read about countless stories. Pixar films are unique and kids pick up on this. Pixar’s story lines and uniqueness attracts and intrigues kids of all ages. Kids go to Pixar movies to experience a new story that they have never seen before. Based on an article from Quora, Pixar from 1995 to 2012 made movies with “Animals that talk (2), Toys (3), Cars (2), Monsters (1) Humans (3), and Robots (1)” as main characters. Dreamworks studios, in that same amount of time, produced movies with “Animals that talk (14), Animals that don't talk (2), Aliens (1), and Humans (3)” as main characters. This article, while comes from a website where writers answer questions, provides many statistics and research to support her claims, making it a reliable source. This article address my research question because it provides many numbers and thoughts about why kids go to Pixar movies instead of other animation studios. It directly deals with incentives. Originality of characters and story line is evident in these statistics, and kids pick up on this originality without having to look at numbers. Original story lines are incentives for kids to go to Pixar movies because they experience a new story and become engaged in it.
Overall, the creativity and the amount of care that goes into Pixar’s movies is clearly evident. When a valuable lesson is presented in a very comprehensible way to youth, they pick up on it. Kids are incentivized to go to Pixar movies because they like watching something they have never seen before, becoming fond of characters, and to laugh and have fun.
In a future blog post I will discuss the possible incentives for adults to go to and bring their children to Pixar movies.
