While golf has always been seen as a game of tradition, it is clear that golf clothing and equipment are shaped heavily by the contemporary culture surrounding the game. From bold colors and patterns, to the materials used, to the brands that produce them, it is evident that modern day golf is affected greatly by the game's recent change in culture.
As the game grew staggering amounts since the late 1900s and early 2000s, many new people were introduced to the game. As a result, in 2009 studies by the National Golf Foundation showed that the population of non retired white men and white women with higher incomes increased by about 5 million along with low income minority men and women. Because of this change, the golf industry had to adapt to this changing market because these new golfers didn't necessarily want to wear the traditional golf clothes. This prompted the production of a new variety of golf clothes, essentially changing the atmosphere and look of the industry. An example of this is Nike's MM line of clothing which are tighter fitting and have interesting designs such as a blade collar.
Since golf's demographics are constantly changing as time passes, the golf industry is constantly adapting to cultural changes and is therefore heavily affected by these changes.
