Everyone has a different personality, there is not one person who is exactly the same as you. Music tends to be something people have similar tastes. But just because two people like the same type of music doesn't always mean they have the same behavior. How does different music create different behavior patterns in people and is age a factor? The American Academy of Pediatrics The American Academy of Pediatrics discusses the impact music has on children and youth.

Majority of people would say that they have a favorite genre of music. The American Academy of Pediatrics states, "Music plays an important role in the socialization of children and adolescents. Popular music is present almost everywhere, and it is easily available through the radio, various recordings, the Internet, and new technologies, allowing adolescents to hear it in diverse settings and situations, alone or shared with friends." From this it is clear music is an important aspect in peoples everyday lives. "Lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex, and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres." Due to the explicit content in music does that create explicit behavior in our society? "As with popular music, the perception and the effect of music-video messages are important, because research has reported that exposure to violence, sexual messages, sexual stereotypes, and use of substances of abuse in music videos might produce significant changes in behaviors and attitudes of young viewers. " With exposure to explicit material children are starting to think certain behavior is normal when in reality it may not be.
Studies have shown that adolescents who listen to music more tend to share similarities in their behavior. "American youth listen to music from 1.5 to 2.5 hours per day. Still, a study performed with a small sample of at-risk youth revealed an average of up to 6.8 hours of music-listening per day."
People who listen to music for longer periods of time tend to have stronger emotions related to the genre of music they were listening to. "A number of studies have demonstrated that there is a relationship between music and emotions, regardless of age. Although the emotional response to music depends on the way it is presented, it is also true that it is closely related to the age of the listener and the experiences or preconceived ideas they bring to the music." Not only does music change the behavior of adolescents but all ages. Every decade tends to have a different common taste in music which can be closely related with different behaviors among different age groups.
Overall, it is clear that music places strong emotions in all people and can change behavior in people of all ages. Due to the constant change in technology and society there is a relationship between contrasting views in different age groups relating to what behavior is acceptable and what is not.
Future Research: How does age reflect music taste?

I would finish writing this post.
ReplyDeleteBut I read your last post and I think it is really good just make sure you publish it. I liked how you stated the theories and made a personal connection(your friend) with it. The one thing that I would add/improve one is to go more in depth when your analyzing.
